Revival of Fiddler on the Roof

I'm sorry, but as great a show as Fiddler is. Haven't there been enough revivals. I mean come on! We've had enough!

There's a lot of Jewish people out there. I'm sure they'll all be on the edge of their seats. I mean that with all respect.

I guess the only time to answer that is after it has opened and we see how good a production it turns out to be.

re: Revival of Fiddler on the Roof

Not everyone will be happy about every upcoming show.. I wish they'd do SOMETHING different with it this time.. but we KNOW about the Robbins estate....

Fiddler is a good show when done right and I would like to see this production and its cast and I wish them a good run....

re: Revival of Fiddler on the Roof

I just mean, I think that after like 3 revivals they should stop. If this one is a good production, may they have a long run. But there are so many revivals nowadays. I just wish that there were more shows that aren't based on anything or a remake of something. Just totally original.

Don't we all...
Nine was excellent, such a star-studded cast!
Revivals are like old clothes, eventually they come back in style.

re: re: Revival of Fiddler on the Roof

A lot of us feel that way. The age of Broadway when composers and lyricists wrote musicals are over. It has to be based on a book or a movie or a revival.
I don't have a problem with any of them. I love a lot of the musicals on Broadway right now. I never really think about the lack of original musicals on Broadway. BUt when you think about it, you realize that more original musicals are needed on Broadway.

There are many people who were too young or not around with the last revival of Fiddler. I plan to see it this time around. Not that I am one of the young ones, ha ha. You don't have to be Jewish to want to see this musical. It has a lot of history and tradition in it. I, myself, love the music.

Umm... BillyLawlor, you do realize that the majority of Broadway shows from back in the day were based off a book or a previously written play, right? Fiddler was based off a book of stories written by Sholom Aleichem. Very few shows are purely original stories.

Coming from a swing, very impressive! I can say that because I'm now a Featured Actor.

Most definitely. A show could not exist without swings. Three cheers for the swings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't object to revivals per se - I've seen some wonderful ones (such as the current GYPSY) - but somehow mere commercialism must be over-ridden by the need to encourage new, exciting writing in Broadway musical theatre. Thank God for WICKED! (although Stephen Schwartz is hardly a "new" writer.)

I'm looking forward to Fiddler's revival, it's such a wonderfully crafted show! The Minskoff has a HUGE stage....Lots of room to fill...I cannot wait to see the set!

re: re: re: re: re: Revival of Fiddler on the Roof

I have tickets to the show in March. And I just got the DVD for christmas. I'm looking forward to it very much. i see no reason why a well loved and respected show like Fiddler on the Roof can't spend a lot of time on Broadway. If you check out the IBDB you will find that the Mikado was revived and played at almost every theate on Broadway at least TWICE in that theatre's history. I have no idea why......but it did. So going by that standard Fiddler needs to have about 35 more revivals in our lifetime. Thats a great thought...
You are young, life has been kind to you. You will learn.
