Hey, gang!
Not too sure how much traction this headline's received, especially recently, so I figured I'd start this little thread and shed some light on a very special happening next Thursday and Friday evening in the world of theatre and opera!
MasterVoices (formerly The Collegiate Chorale) will open its upcoming 75th anniversary season with the New York premiere of Ricky Ian Gordon and Royce Vavrek’s "27", with performances Thursday, October 20th and Friday, October 21st @ 8:00 PM at New York City Center's Mainstage. The musical will star Stephanie Blythe, Heidi Stober, Theo Lebow, Tobias Greenhalgh, Daniel Brevik, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, all under the auspices of conductor, Ted Sperling and directed by James Robinson,
"27" is a new musical that explores the relationship between Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, who hosted regular salon evenings at their Paris home at 27 Rue de Fleurus, with such guests as Pablo Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald, May Ray, Henri Matisse, and Ernest Hemingway.
Also of note, originally commissioned by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, "27" received its world premiere in June 2014. For the New York premiere, Gordon has specially added new sections for the MasterVoices chorus.
