It is possible for Foster to end up with a leading nomination, but her role does not warrant one and I am not sure if the producers of the show would want her in that category, which she pretty much has no chance of winning, than put her in a category she at least has a shot at.
Featured Actress is going to be quite a headache. Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, Felicia P. Fields, Amy Spanger, Felicia Finley, Beth Leavel, Sutton Foster, Cyndi Lauper, Nellie McKay, Megan Lawrence, Donna Lynn Champlin, Carolee Carmello, and Merle Dandridge all have a good shot at being nominated.

I don't find Dandridge amazing at all...not in TARZAN.
I would consider Nellie McKay leading, no?

Cyndi deserves it, IMO.
If we want to get political - Cyndi has been working around Broadway for years (not in a show, but helping out at award ceremonies, performing benefits....go watch her sing "There's No Business Like Show Business" on YouTube). A Tony may convince her to do more shows - and we will all benefit. Plus, I fell in love with her after her performance and, to be honest, I knew the name...I knew the songs...but the two never clicked together (I should read Playbill bios first).
Now, to get nasty - Felicia is leaving to go to the Chicago production. I was a big fan of hers after seeing the show...until I saw Cyndi. But Elisabeth W-M has a much more substantial role.
Megan Lawrence is great in PG - but not nearly as endearing as Cyndi or Elisabeth. IMO, I could not imagine a performance this season that is more affecting than Lauper's.

I totally agree, BSO.
For me, it's between Withers-Mendes and Lauper, and I would give the award to Lauper HANDS down.

I've only heard Withers-Mendes but I love her performance. Can't really compare the two though, as I haven't seen either.
Felicia is going to Chicago? What role?

Sofia.
I was really upset about it. She is a scene stealer and is great in the show. I love her a lot. But...Elisabeth has a tougher role to tackle. As does Cyndi.

ETA: Oh, I see. Though she would make a pretty nifty Mama in the show Chicago.

Yeah she would, BSO.
Lauper would be a great Velma or Roxie, too.

I still want to see Lauper in Sweeney Todd.
I think, after a lot of work, she would be fantastic. Especially this production - I don't know if she could be in the Prince version.
I think she takes a role and makes it her own. She needs a vehicle or something.

Posted: 5/9/06 at 7:22pmOh please give Curtains this theatre. Please God. We need Kander and Ebb, not some no names in another schlocky movie to stage adaptation.
