LIZ CALLAWAY MARKS THE PASSAGE OF TIME WITH AN ENCORE OF HER CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED
PASSAGE OF TIME AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM
2 SHOWS ONLY THIS NEW YEARS EVE
For a special New Years Eve treat, the Metropolitan Room welcomes back the Tony
nominated and Emmy-winning Liz Callaway in a one-night only encore of her hit show
Passage of Time. Based on her newly released album of the same name (PS Classics
in October), Passage of Time ticks off a set of timely numbers by Carly Simon,
Stephen Schwartz, the Beatles, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Maltby and Shire, Stephen
Sondheim and John Bucchino, among others. In reviewing the shows October premiere,
Stephen Holden of The New York Times proclaimed that Callaways is a big, bright
Broadway voice that illuminates a room like a ray of sunshine beamed to the rafters.
() She had the packed house cheering.
Callaway performs Passage of Time twice on New Years eve -- at 8pm, when the
cover charge is $40 (plus a two-drink minimum), and again at 10:30pm, when a special
$125 cover (plus tax and gratuity) includes free-flowing hors doeuvres, dessert, a
champagne toast and open bar.
Seen most recently on Broadway in The Look of Love, Callaway made her Big Stem
debut in the original cast of Sondheims Merrily We Roll Along. Besides "Baby"
(for which she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a
Musical) she starred in "Cats," "Miss Saigon" and "The Three Musketeers." Passage
of Time is Callaways first album in eight years.
Rated "Best of New York" by New York Magazine in 2008, the Nightlife and Bistro
Award-winning Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, opened its doors in May 2006.
The club is celebrated for booking both well-known and up-and-coming singers in
shows spanning an eclectic range of styles -- from jazz and cabaret, to folk, pop
and rock.
