Rob Sapp---Spelling Bee?

Was Rob Sapp in Spelling Bee? What part did he play and why did he leave? How long was he with the show? It says he was in his bio, but I thought he had been with Wicked all of these years...

im not sure if this was him or not but i know the person playing chip was replaced after the berkshire run because he was white and they wanted more diversity in the cast. thats why they brought in jose lana(sp?)

I think Rob was Chip in an early workshop

he was chip in barrington... but then went to wicked

Robb was indeed Chip in Spelling Bee at Barrington. They then wanted to go ethnic with the role and cast Jose Llana. The sad part being they kind of wrote the role around Robb with Robb's stylings around it. Having seen Robb do it, I found it was far funnier with him in the role...he actually made the role work out of town in a way it hasn't worked since it got here.

A friend of mine saw the show out of town and yes, Rob was Chip. I did some shows in high school and stuff with Rob and I think he's great and a really great guy, but my best friend said he was the only bad part of the show out of town.

Rob then got the Boq/ensemble thing in Wicked as the 2econd Stage stuff was coming together for Spelling Bee and left the show for Wicked. Just a few weeks after that, they recast his part with Jose, Rob wasn't kicked out or replaced - he left for Wicked.

When i searched it said that he played "Tripp". Maybe they changed the name??

Actually Robb was great in the show at Barrington. It's the part that wasn't working-and still doesn't work very well IMHO. And he was replaced as it moved to 2nd Stage. He went in for the auditions and was told they were casting someone "more ethnic" in the role...despite the fact that Robb had created it at Barrington.
