Which CD is that? Lupone toured in it with the Acting Company and my wife was her understudy for that show.

Patti LuPone Live - a two disc concert CD.
If I remember correctly, they stayed, and stayed, and stayed on the road trying to get it right.

The show that Patti toured in (seemingly forever) was THE BAKER'S WIFE. She also tells the story about David Merrick hating "Meadowlark" so much that he went into the orchestra pit, stole all the charts from the music stands, locked them in a briefcase and disappeared with them. Patti couldn't sing the song that night.

Thanks Dollypop. I've not listened to that CD in a long time and knew that both shows were discussed in that monologue. I think my just out of bed brain might also have left the word "Concert" out of the title of the CD.

That is really bizarre. I think Meadowlark is Schwartz's best song he has written. I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.

I never thought 'Meadowlark' was especially valuable in context of the show. It's a nice song but I think it's WAAAAAAAAAY too long and expendable in the actual show. But given that most of the show is treading water, they might as well keep the good song that does it.
