I have a student who is extremely excited about a local theatre company's upcoming audition for Sondheim's 'Company,' This is a show that (I am almost ashamed to say) I know very little about. He says his "dream role" is Robert. What kind of advice can I give him, as far as audition songs go? He really just wants a great song that will allow him to be considered for that role. Suggestions anyone? Thanks so much.

Robert is one of the most deceptively difficult roles in theatre. In addition to charm, looks, wit and sexiness, he has to have a vocal range to beat the band.
Someone is Waiting is the litmus test since the song goes way up into the head. Being Alive is no walk in the park either.
A good song might be Something's Coming.
How old is said student?
He's in his early 20's, but a pretty mature guy.
Just asking because the show opens at Bobby's 35th birthday party.
Hey WOSQ!
That's one of my favorite audition songs of all time! I use that and "Maria" from the same show a lot. Good range and emotion in both - perfect for a BOBBY audition!
Very cool to see someone toss that one out there!
