I'm getting seriously addicted to it. Now is the time where I beg my mom for a cast recording. And I need help on getting the best one!
So, which is the best recording of Rocky Horror I can get?

I'm partial to the one with Tim Curry.(It's the Original Roxy Cast from Los Angeles 1974 so you can look it up.)I mean Tim Curry IS Rocky Horror. I've heard the revival album and it was fine, I just prefer the original.
I'd say the most recent revival
Raúl, Daphne, Tom, Ana, Alice... It's a great cast
has to be the original movie soundtrack........anything else is second best

I would second the Roxy Cast recommendation...I think the rendition of "Sweet Transvestite" there is the absolute best! Also, the movie soundtrack is missing "Sword of Damocles" if I remember correctly.

i'm partial to the revival just for jarrod emick's brad, not to mention raul esparza's only broadway recording (i believe, correct me if i'm wrong) although you must own the movie soundtrack too
bronte, I'm pretty sure the soundtrack from the movie has sword of damocles on it......just too lazy to go find out

Curry IS Frankenfurter. Get the soundtrack.
Agree with Margo.
The 2000 revival has it's strong moments (Alice Ripley's wonderful Janet; Lea DeLaria as Eddie/Schott), but it's not consistently good.
jonartdesigns, you're forgetting Raúl in Taboo

I love the movie disc too, I just thought the topic was directed towards stage recordings...
I own the Original London, Roxy Cast, Movie Soundtrack and New Broadway Cast Recordings. The two stand outs IMO are the 1974 Roxy Cast and the 1975 Motion Picture Soundtrack.
You not only get the privilege of hearing most of the performers who originated the roles on the London stage but you get the added treat of hearing Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon. Sarandon's "Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me" is a highlight of the film. Bostwick and Sarandon do some nice work on "Over At The Frankenstein Place". The movie cast is the definitive cast IMO.

Good idea! Then you can gradually move to the original cast and revival
. I'm actually listening to the movie soundtrack now since my friends and I are going to the opening of a Rocky Horror show friday (with any luck).

The weak link of the movie soundtrack is Susan Sarandon's singing. I prefer a Janet with a powerful belt.

Of all the mass-released ROCKY HORROR albums to choose from, there are....
The movie soundtrack - Just the songs from the movie
The 25 Anniversary movie soundtrack - Almost the entire movie, dialogue and songs
London (1973) - My least favorite of the recordings, Tim Curry sounds SO different... nothing like on the movie or the Roxy doesn't include a lot of the songs that wound up in the show's score by the time the movie rolled around.
Studio (1995) - Kim Criswell is Janet, she's pretty good. This is a good recording, the actors sing the parts very well; and it's nice to hear the score, as is, with other actors than Tim Curry, Richard O'Brien, Meat Loaf, etc. and others that roll over onto several recordings.
Broadway Revival (2000) - I personally think this is the most enjoyable to listen to out of all the recordings. It's fresh, and the most fast and up-tempo'ed of all the RHS cast albums. Plus, it has the strongest cast out of any that is recorded.
Roxy/Los Angeles Cast (1974 - also serves as OBC) - This and the Broadway revival are my favorites. If you want the score without all the bells and whistles, this is what you want.
Australia (1980... I believe is the year) - Only has 6 songs. I don't really listen, but was given as a gift. Nice quality, but nowhere close to a complete score.
You NEED to hear Tim Curry as Frankenfurter. It is the only way to hear the show.
