Are there any clips of this floating around. Any production, I just wanted to refresh my memory about the songs... I saw a taped version of a production about a year ago... and was just curious if there was any place I could go to listen to the music. Thanks!

Which musical version are you speaking of as there are several out there.

Let me warn you, the UK version is a load of crap.

....The two versions that you would either want to listen to or watch the most are the Original French Cast Recording or DVD; Or the new Vienna Cast Recording, which in my opinion, is better than the French. The original version is actually quite an amazing show, and the material really isn't that bad. With the right English book and lyrics, the show may actually be quite good. I am just not a fan of Don Black at all, and knew that he would tarnish the UK/1st English production.

I thought perhaps they might be talking about the one that Terry wrote. It's total dreck!

Yeah, I always assume people are talking about the Terrence Mann show. Never heard it. Didn't it play at Goodspeed?

Does anyone know if anything is ever going to come from the R&J Terrence Mann did? I have a demo CD from it and have been curious.
I heard clips from the French recording of the other Romeo and Juliet but don't rememeber where from.

Well, judging from what everyone on the board seems to think about both of them, I doubt either of them will have much of a life.

Do any of you of you know where one might find the sample recording to Terry's? I heard he sings on it and I want to hear him sing :).

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I didn't even know there was any kind of recording out there of Terry Mann's show, demo or otherwise. If there is, you can count me in, too, as interested in getting it.

To be honest, Terrence Mann's version, as well as the Presgurvic/Black incarnation would probably both crash and burn in those forms if the were allowed to open on Broadway, or any NY theater for the matter! Presgurvic's original French version as well as the new Vienna version, if translated well, may actually be successful in another British or American premier...Just depends on who pens the book and lyrics really...Never know!

The French version is quite awfull. It was just a pop concert with good music but the words were just so bad. The Lyrics are not written in proper French, I know it is going to be hard to explain but in one of the songs for example, a character says I make a crime instead of saying I commit a crime and it is like that during the whole show so that the word can stick to the music easily. The Lyrics were dumb like "Aimer c'est voler plus haut et toucher les ailes des oiseaux" wich means Loving is like flying higher and touch the birds wing". IMO it was just bad but with nice music. The only problem is when Presgurvic wrote "Gone with the Wind",he used the same music..... And by the way, the music and choirs were prerecorded.
We have small French musicals that are much better like one about Camille Claudel that was beautiful and another one about monsters called "Créatures" that was as funny as the Producers and Avenue Q.

In my heart, I found the answered dream, and in my soul I found the song, and in my friends I found the magic, the love, the moon up above- they were mine, all mine, all along..!

Yes, Terry's version played at Goodspeed and he's been working on getting it to play there again next season. The music is bland to say the very least and the lyrics are not handled well at all. What staging was done was also less than mediocre. However, whomever did the orchestrations did a brilliant job. They were beautiful.
