Interesting review by Lee... If there's any show that'll get her back in shape, Chicago is the one. I wonder if she'd consider (or they'd consider) having her do it on Broadway next?

I saw her in Putting it Together and would love to see her back on Broadway. I wonder if she'd consider it.

I was fortunate enough to see Ruthie play Velma in Boston when she was touring with the "Roxie Company" of CHICAGO here in the States. She was wonderful!

The article mentioned Ruthie not being "as slim" as per usual. I can't imagine Ruthie as heavy (she doesn't have the body type) - even after having a child. She's petite to begin with. I suppose they are referring perhaps to the usual "stick" look that a lot of dancers have to maintain, huh? Has anyone seen a recent picture?

omg. that picture is amazing!

I was just about to post that she was on a talk show over here promoting a few days ago, and she looks fine. But after that pic, there's no point. lol

I was goning to go and see her it for my birthday yesterday, but we couldn't do it. Now I'm really going to try my hardest to get to see it b4 her run ends.

Does anybody know when that is?

I hope she comes back to Broadway. Maybe she could play Cassie in a revival of A Chorus Line. She would be amazing!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there talk a few years ago about the hit London revival of My Fair Lady coming to Broadway with Ruthie and Johnathan Pryce??? I was SOOO looking forward to that, since Ruthie would be phenominal.

Ruthie IS indeed coming back to Broadway as Roxie Hart in Chicago. She is slated to begin in early 2004 :) :)

As for the end of her run.. I think it should say in that musicals.net thread I linked to... if not, I can see if I can find out because I don't know off the top of my head.

I'm good, ARF -- nice to have you here re: re: re: re: Ruthie in Chicago....

first of all Ruthie Looks frickin gorgeous and so damn hot in that pic! Woo she's back after baby and all!

second of all, The8re Fan2, Ruthie was rumored to play Eliza in My Fair Lady like 2-3 years ago, but they already went ahead and cast the show, and she wasn't considered. I thought that sucked butt, but what can you do??

Third, CJR, Ruthie's coming to bdway to play Roxie?? I know ofcourse she played Roxie in London where they made the most amazing recording of her "Funny Honey, and "Roxie" songs, but she's not playing Velma anymore???

And How many actresses besides Chita and Ruthie Henshall have actually played both Roxie AND Velma. This is why these 2 are of my favorite performers! lol

I agree, I think Ruthie looks hot in that photo, too!

Yeah, the gimmick was she was going to play Velma in London, where she's only played Roxie before, and then come here next year to play Roxie (we've only seen her Velma). Her Velma was one of my favorites, though...I can foresee my finances will be in big trouble if she does come back her to play Roxie!

Thanks for the welcome, CJR! I've been lurking...

Oh, and as far as actresses playing both Roxie and Velma, I think only Chita and Ruthie have done it above the title...though as far as I know on Broadway, as a standby Nancy Hess went on for both roles a number of times, and Donna Marie Asbury has played Velma and went on once as an understudy Roxie. Ruthie will be the first actress to play both roles over the title on Broadway if she comes here, as Chita only played Roxie in London and on the US national tour. I've heard that she won't play the role on Broadway in deference to Gwen, which is understandable but also a shame, since I would love to see her Roxie!

This is from an interview dated last week which is posted on ruthiehenshall.com, in the "interact" session. It sounds like Ruthie coming to Broadway is not a done deal yet...

Q. So, your plans for after Chicago ... has a run as Roxie on Broadway been confirmed yet?

A. No. They only work two months in advance, but it will happen when it's good for both them and for me. Tim will soon start Tonight's the Night and I would never go to Broadway without him. I would never take Lily away from him. It would be terible for her and it would be terrible for him - and terrible for me. I don't want to be separated from either of them. I don't believe absence makes the heart grow fonder, I never have believed in that. A couple of weeks is fine here and there, but when you have 3 months it's just miserable. It probably won't be for a year and we'll just see if anything comes here that I want to do. I have been spoilt rotten with the Crazy For Yous and Chicagos and I really want something to get my teeth into. Who knows what's coming up?!

---

Now I may have to try to find a cheap flight to London...

LOVE HER!!!! My favorite Velma by far, and so very nice in person. She can be incredibly cute, and then turn around and be so damn sexy. She's great.

Ain't that the truth!

Me and a friend are at this moment trying to work out a bus trip to London to see her. Finances permitting.

Darn, hopefully there will be an opportunity here for both of them. I loved her in Putting it Together!
