Lets see if the show continues to increase at the box office every week. That would be an indication that word of mouth is taking hold. I for one hope SA thrives, it deserves to. I like the last minute gift idea. Have they placed posters around the city?
All I have to say is GO SEE SRPING AWAKENING NOW! The end.
it was soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good and you do yourself a disservice by not seeing it 2939+ times

It is slowly climbing. It will get there. The word of mouth needs to get around. Give it time people. And plus, I feel that article was just stating that the sales didn't blow through the roof right away after opening. Doesn't really mean anything. They increased, thats good for now. And it will keep going!

You know you guys are secretly happy that you can continue to complain about the lack of desire for anything non-commercial on Broadway. If people went to see the show you couldn't hate them for not seeing it.
I'm really want to see the grosses for this week when they come out tomorrow.

Such bullcrap. Spring Awakening still needs to get the word out, which it will. It's going to become a hit. Let's face it, the preview period was, what, a day? Give 'em some time. Sheesh.
Today's Christmas Eve Matinee completely sold out with standing room only tickets being sold for $25.00 apiece. Very enthusiastic audience, lots of young people, some begging for any extra tickets.

I would imagine that it is incredibly difficult to sell out a house immediately when your advance is low. That's what I find misleading about this article. It doesn't even mention that SA's grosses jumped 60 percent from the preceding week after the reviews came out. That is, as Variety, said, "huge". The fact that we are hearing reports of sold out houses this week is a sign that word of mouth has caught on and that the reviews have had a tremendous effect. With the holidays, this isn't traditionally a gangbuster week for Broadway. It's still too early to call, and articles like these are simply alarmist.
I'm agreeing with McFrenzied. A lot of this article doesn't seem very accurate to me.
Please explain why the Bloomberg article is inaccurate.
sadly the article is accurate,
and the reports of the show selling out one or two performances at discount prices is not going to make this show profitable to run.
I have heard that the producers have not hired a PR firm to "push" this show because one of the producers is a PR person himself and feels he knows better.
But the bottom line is that you need Money to spend Money and they just don't have it.
If one of the $ backers can kick in they might have a chance.
It's a great show and desrves to run but the Target audience is just not the people to keep it runing if there is no spark in the BO.
This weeks numbers will be encouraging beacuse it is a Holiday and the show does have some buzz, But the next few weeks will be the test.
Keep fingers crossed cause the talent deserves to work if the show fails it will again make it harder to do experimental work like this and THE TIMES THEY ARE... to get the backing they deserve.
hmmm it's not on TDF right now, so we'll see. hopefully it will continue to pick up sales.
with all due respect to the show, i don't think the article was correct in saying it had the best reviews any new musical had in years...i mean, spring awakening had very good reviews, but so have many new musicals.
i saw the show saturday afternoon and i think the reason that it may not be selling well is because who is the show going to get as an audience member? it's too inappropriate to bring many kids under the age of 16 and many adults aren't going to want to see it. I was in the onstage seats and the woman in front of me was this older woman who was absolutely apalled and startled when gerard started jumping down next to her during "totally f*cked." so that is the question. who will go see it besides teenagers and early 20s? yeah, maybe some middle-age adults, but certainly not all of them....hopefully it will get more audience members. it looked pretty filled saturday afternoon.
it should stay. jonathan groff is too cute for it to not stay! hehe
