Hi, I'm going to UT which is developing its film instittue by joining with Burn Orange Productions and producing like 3 independent films per year (budget of 500k to 3 million per film).
I'm a theatre major and hoping to get a small walk on role or role as an extra. Do I need a SAG card to do this?
How do I get my SAG card if so???
It depends on the film. When they are casting, they will usually tell you if they are SAG or not. I'm guessing with a budget like that, they would be affiliated with SAG, but again it varies for every production especialy when it comes to indie films.

i apologize moderators but....
bogey you are so rude, i have a full time a job, an internship, and am taking 15 hrs a semester.
shut the **** up.
Um, bogey is right.
If the casting people want to hire someone they can get them their SAG card outright.
bwguy, don't worry about him. That's all his posts consist of.
Bwguy was just wondering if he was at all able to work in these films if they were SAG. He wasn't asking anyone here for a job.

No, he was asking if he could be in it if he WEREN'T a member of SAG.
The answer is: you don't need a SAG card to audition. If you get a part, and it's a SAG film, you can join.
Or, you don't have to join. The Taft-Hartley Act says you don't have to join if it's your first SAG job - that wy, if it's a one time thing and you don't choose to make a career out of film acting, you won't have to sepnd all that money to join the union.
