I attended a preview performance last Saturday night, having purchased "side view" seats that were advertised as being right up against the stage with complete visibility, albeit from the side. This section, however, was directly behind a row of 4 actors who remained in place throughout the entire performance, completely blocking any view of Mr. Pacino and the other leads. The ticketholders in this section were literally crawling under their chairs, desperately trying to get a glimpse of the performance through the ankles of the inert actors whose backs constituted 90% of our field of vision.
Clearly, no one bothered to check the visibility from these seats before they were put on sale to the unwitting public. Several inquiries to the producers and the general manager have been acknowledged, but otherwise ignored. This is an inauspicious and embarrassing arrival on the theatre scene for the producers, Richmark Entertainment, who have taken over the Brentwood and Wadsworth Theatres, and who apparently believe that overt contempt for the audience is the best way to establish a loyal following.
