I am familiar with Urinetown's music and concept, but what was it meant to satirize, munk???
Little Shop???

It was a satire on society, politics, and other Broadway musicals.
I don't see how Little Shop is really a satire...unless it's spoofing old "horror" movies, but that's not a very strong satire.
And I don't see how A CLASS ACT is a satire AT ALL...

little shop is definitely a satire on society and fear, not to mention the roles of the urchins.
perhaps i'm remembering a class act wrong.
but i would agree with urinetown.

A satire on society and fear? Honestly, I 100% disagree with you...
SWEENEY TODD is very much a satire on society and declining morals of mankind.
INTO THE WOODS is sort of a satire about growing up, and, again, faith in mankind.
COMPANY is also a satire on middle class people.

Thanks for the reminder.

Well, INTO THE WOODS and SWEENEY TODD aren't exactly positive satires...
As far as plays, definitely THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST

oh, did you want plays too?
negative satires? like shows that satirize the bad things? urinetown is a good answer for that. but i'm unclear on what you mean.

Satire is a literary technique of writing or art which principally ridicules its subject (individuals, organizations, states) often as an intended means of provoking or preventing change. -from wikipedia.
i'm not sure i agree with sweeney, but putting something in a negative light? normally satire is humourous, because it's a contrast. so i'm not sure i really understand can think of that.

Margo's laptop died and Margo is now operating on an ancient old desktop via dial-up, so it's far too much trouble to try and post most of the time, hence my absence.
Add Beyond Therapy by Durang to the list.
