A beautiful, if flawed, piece by Noah Haidle, directed by Nicholas Martin (with uncredited contributions from Bartlett Sher after Martin took ill).
Superb performances all around (John McMartin, James Rebhorn, Robert Eli and Rosie Benton), with the theatrical device of three men playing the same character at various ages really shining. McMartin is at the top of his game; Benton has a storied career ahead of her.
Exquisite, evocative design, especially the lighting. Direction is swift; writing is solid. Some parts work better than others, one or two plot points seem unbelievable.
It's the acting that really makes the production at LCT worth seeing, especially McMartin's heartbreaking turn as someone left alone because of innumerable unfortunate circumstances.
Perfect for a blustery winter's day such as this.
