I hope this is true, I hope to get some songs. But it's odd its on June 1, thats a Saturday, most CD/music releases are on Tuesdays.

YES!! I've been listening to a bootleg of the show for months now.
June 15 is the target date. June 1 was a placeholder which Amazon is updating shortly.
The album is beautifully produced by David Lai and Joel Fram.

Please don't PM me asking for it because I don't have it, and also please don't judge my ethical practices RE: supporting the Broadway/cast recording community because I have spent thousands of $$$ supporting this industry (Indeed, I imagine I'm one of the few who bought ROAD SHOW on iTunes AND on CD so I didn't have to wait long to listen to it, and I'm sure I'm one of the few who bought a full-price ticket for the SCOTTSBORO BOYS).
But this CD has been leaked for weeks, before the release date was even announced even, which I just find strange.
I can't wait to buy my copy! #scandalous4eva
iTunes needs to get their act together. The only cast recording that has been avaible for pre-order this season is Kinky Boots.

I can't imagine Apple is the problem, as they would love to lock-in purchases in advance. Probably that smaller labels don't set them up.

qolbinau, the advanced copy of the album was sent out to certain people in the industry.
I love it. The score is MUCH better on disc. Still not great, but a fun listen, and Carolee sounds incredible.
Per Amazon, the CD release has been delayed (again) until June 28... at least the digital is already out!
Why would a show like Scandalous even bother producing a OBCR? I'm not asking this to be mean or dump on the show but rather I just don't understand the motivation. It got poor reviews, low attendance and only ran 3-4 weeks after opening. I can't see them selling very many of these, maybe 500 or 1000, maybe less. I can't see how they would sell enough to cover the costs to record and produce this. Is there another reason they might want to do this beyond hoping to make money off of it? Am I missing somthing?

Good questions, Bob. The usual reasons: ego, good money to throw after bad, a sincere belief in the material, inspiring other productions, hope springing eternal. After all, look at Lysistrata Jones and its movie deal. Maybe it'll be an Oscar-winning smash hit! So who knows what might happen to Scandalous?!!

It's hard to know their motivation. Perhaps it was in recognition of the amazing performance given by Carolee Carmello and a desire to preserve that? I mean, she has her fans, so maybe they are counting on fans buying the album or single songs. (Personally, there are a couple of songs I loved hearing Carmello sing, so I contemplated just buying those. But, I like having a disc so I decided to get that instead). Plus, I'm sure there is some kind of tax write off available since the show failed.

Unless there is one huge mogul/producer or celebrity backing the financing of the Cast Recording, "ego" has absolutely nothing to do with it since that would be a massively expensive ego to coddle. Cast Recordings of the large musicals are typically $300,000+ to produce and notoriously unpredictable in the market with a few exceptions (such as BOOK OF MORMON).
The most common reason they do it is to build up licensing value in the property. It's a longterm investment that could pay off years later, and it's becoming a worthwhile risk for many of the producers. Many feel that if the teachers and directors can actually hear the original music in context, they'll decide to produce it.
I know of several investors who only become involved with shows, once they have closed on Broadway, to finance the Cast Recording in the hopes of securing a larger return on investment with licensing, publishing, and other subsidiary rights (ex. television and film).
It's so fascinating to see how much that aspect of theatre has changed in the last 10 to 15 years.
