re: SEE PRISCILLA!

So many West End theates are so deep in the stalls. Always been a problem and that problem aint going to go away as productions get more and more complicated and bigger.
Its totally up to the producers to price seats accordingly!

re: SEE PRISCILLA!

I went last night and, I must say, I wasn't a fan. I couldn't argue with the production and the music is fantastic, but it just didn't do it for me. I'm far from homophobic (I work in theatre, for Christ's sake), but I found the fact that it was so relentlessly camp pretty tiresome after a while. To make the obvious comparison, La Cage Aux Folles has a fantastic balance of camp craziness, wit and poignancy, but I got the impression that Priscilla doesn't actually have any substance. I've never seen the film, but I didn't get much whiff of a storyline from the show as any plot points were hugely overshadowed by admittedly fantastic but often unnecessary sequences... I got the impression that Macarthur Park was only included so they could bring out the cake dresses. The whole cast were brilliant except, tragically, for Jason Donovan... if he was any more wooden, he'd have been a shed and he makes peculiar and distracting faces when he sings. By the time Tick meets his son, it's difficult to engage with emotionally because after all the giant cakes, giant shoes, dead Teletubbies and flying divas, I'd actually forgotten he even had a son and didn't give a toss what they had to say to each other. For production value, it's brilliant and the musical arrangements are genius, but as a theatrical experience, I was pretty disappointed.

I've not seen the current London LA CAGE, but I've always thought of LA CAGE as pretty cheesy. Likeable but cheesy.

re: SEE PRISCILLA!

I've just booked for this at the end of April. My friend was only prepared to pay for the Grand Circle, 'cos she is cheap, and we are at the back. Given Mama's info above, should we try and change tickets or see if they come up with a solution? And would they change tickets anyway in these circumstances?
Thanks.
