"THAT JONES BOY! OR, THE ADVENTURES OF A BASTARD" is a Musical Comedy of Manners adapted from Henry Fielding's classic mid-18th century novel, "Tom Jones" with book & lyrics by Robert D. Carver & Music by Michael Matasci.
Yes, we're well-aware of the other jukebox musical version knocking around out there, but ours has entirely new and original songs which tell the story of a young man, presumed illegitimate, who is seeking his proper place in the highly rigid society of the period. Banished from the house in which he has been brought up, he journeys to London in search of fortune and his one true love.
Along the way, he encounters a wide variety of colorful characters including soldiers, aristocrats, criminals and a series of lusty ladies of easy virtue and a wild Irishman with whom he is forced into a duel whom he wounds. Accused of attempted murder and robbery, our hero is on the verge of being hanged from the gallows. He is rescued at the last moment and restored to the loving arms of his childhood sweetheart. The other characters are properly paired--even the antagonists--and all ends happily as the curtain falls.
THE CURRENT PLAN IS TO PRESENT A STAGED READING ON NOVEMBER 20TH FOR AN INVITED AUDIENCE OF INDUSTRY MEMBERS AND A SELECT NUMBER OF AVERAGE THEATERGOERS TO GAUGE AUDIENCE REACTION AT A MIDTOWN MANHATTAN LOCATION. THE ESTIMATED BUDGET IS $100K, BUT IT IS NOT ESSENTIAL TO RAISE THE ENTIRE AMOUNT AT ONCE. RATHER, IT CAN BE DONE IN SMALLER INCREMENTS.
