I just saw this movie on June 2... anyone who loves Broadway shows has to see this film. It chronicles the creative progress around 4 Broadway shows -- Taboo, Wicked, Caroline or Change and Avenue Q. Excellent movie!

I emailed the independant film theater chain in my area (yes, a paradox I know), and we are getting it June 22. I'm really excited. I have literally watched the Rick McKay film and the PBS documentary probably upwards of 20 times each, and have watched segments/bnus features considerably more.

The film, while must-see (because we don't get many theatre film), isn't a particularly GOOD film. It's kind of misleading.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I read your review, Capn; does the movie really claim to be about the creative process, though? I remember that when I saw it, at least, they were pushing it as being about the road to the Tonys as the pinnacle of the season -- that's pretty accurate.

Perhaps my understanding of what the film was to be about was based on buzz, but also perhaps not.

Even so, while watching the film, there were many unanswered/unaddressed questions. They never included anything about AVENUE Q nor CAROLINE, OR CHANGE being off-Broadway; etc.

What I did was I looked up the website for theaters in my area that bring in the independent films. I found the contact info, then emailed them. We have Landmark Theaters here. I don't know what might be in your area.

They do include some background info on the four shows featured, but the focus is on the Broadway season - and is even presented as following a Summer-Spring format. There is absolutely nothing misleading about this whatsoever.

She gained unprecedented access, and builds an incredible amount of physical and emotional momentum (especially considering the limited time involved,) and culminates in a true climax at the Tonys.

Highly recommended for anyone interested in the process of developing a Broadway show. But remember the first part of the title - SHOW BUSINESS.
