Who made that list?
With some of those choices, I'm surprised they didn't pick John Stamos.

I disagree with pretty much all of it.
MADONNA?

thanks for the really quick response!
some of these names seem really peculiar to me. as if they could have been on a power player list from a few YEARS ago...reba mcentire? jackie mason?
Madonna? What's that about?
Bdway girl, I hate to be a pain, I know I could just go out and try to find that magazine but know my curiousity is really piqued. if you could could you give some insight into the reasoning behind those choices that the writer/editors gave, that would be great

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:19pmMadonna was quite good in "Speed-the-Plow", but one credit fifteen years ago hardly merits a spot on the list.

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:22pmThe article is entitled "Show People's Most BANKABLE Stars on Broadway" and lists who, if you were a producer, they think, would cause the most impact box office-wise IF they were to come to Broadway tomorrow (not who already has the strongest track record or who has even expressed interest in returning to Broadway any time soon). A pretty stupid article -- how hard is it to list 25 random famous people, most of whom have no upcoming stage projects on the horizon? -- but that's the premise,

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:23pmAnd Madonna was TERRIBLE in Speed The Plow -- one of the worst performances on Broadway in decades.
#11re: SHOW PEOPLE magazine
Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:27pmI must disagree, Margo. I thought she was terrific, and she held her own with Ron and Joe.

Okay.
Well, Power Player and Bankability are two different ball games.

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:29pmShe looked waaaaaaay out of her depth to me and couldn't keep up with her co-stars. They were in a different (much better) play than she was.

I agree with Margo about Madonna in SPEED THE PLOW.
But I hate SHOW PEOPLE magazine. Clear Channel Entertainment is a despicable organization, and I cannot morally support their efforts. (And it's a crappy magazine anyhow.)

That is a stupid premise
Dare I suggest that posters offer their own suggestions.
Might it create a virtual fistfight?

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:49pmDid you guys see the show early in the run or late? I saw the final performance. Maybe she got better later in the show's run. What kind of reviews did she get?

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:51pmThe Show People Magazine article quotes one of Madonna's Speed-The-Plow reviews, "the car in CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG acts less mechanically."

Posted: 1/23/05 at 8:59pmOH MY GOD! Madonna sucked big time in Speed The Plow. Way way way out of her league.

I subscribed to SHOW PEOPLE magazine when it first began publication. I found it to be a shallow--even insipid--magazine. There was one issue that featured a full color spread about Michelle Lee browsing through an antique shop. Is this what today's tastes have sunk to?
Oh, how I miss SHOWMUSIC magazine and IN THEATER!!! I looked forward to their every edition and found insights about vintage shows as well as intelligent reviews about current productions.
It's sad to note that those to publications folded, while the Clear Channel Crap continues.

Then there was the article where Monica Lewinsky reminisced about her high school theatre productions.
I am NOT kidding. I let my subscription lapse after one completely useless year.

I also subscribed to SHOW PEOPLE for a year, which I believe was supposed to be 4 issues. I only received 2. Didn't bother to complain, but it was the first time I was scammed like that
Take care
