Hi~! I'm preparing material for my 3rd Year Showcase and was looking at maybe doing something like Maureen "Over The Moon" from Rent. However, a previous 3rd Year beat me to it last year so I'd like to avoid doing it since it's so fresh in people's minds. The song/monologue still fits very well with my cast and voice type though so does anyone know of any similar or equally quirky/eccentric/off-kilter songs/monologues I could use?
It's not an easy task to find something similar since "Over the Moon" is such a... performance piece, but here are some ideas:
"TMI" from Island Song (by Sam Carner, Music by Derek Gregor)
This was the first song that came to my mind because it's half-sung, half-spoken, funny and has a quirky vibe. Some of the lyrics might be a little bit too raunchy, though. (The sheet music is available online.)

"You want to be my friend?" from Closer Than Ever (by Richard Maltby, Jr. & David Shire)
A half-spoken, half-sung declaration of a woman who doesn't want to stay friends with her now ex. Maybe the role (based on the lyrics) is a little bit too old for you? I decided to include this song anyway. You could just skip the intro sung by the man.

"I rarely schedule nothing" from Now. Here. This (by Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell & Susan Blackwell)
A high energy song with a monologue in the middle, leaning more into the dramatic territory towards the end.

"Give me your attention" from Now. Here. This. (by Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell & Heidi Blickenstaff)
Another high energy song that also manages to tell a story that fits to an eccentric person and has some big belting moments.

"Daryl is a boy (and he lives in my closet)" (by Michael Mitnick) (The sheet music is available online.)
The behaviour of the role is definitely off-kilter...

"Model Behaviour" from Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (by David Yazbek)
A fast-paced song that demands a lot of breath control but gives the opportunity to really show your comedy acting.

"Look at me now" from Wild Party (by Andrew Lippa)
Lastly, another Idina song, big personality, big belt.

Maybe there is something in there that fits your demands or guides you into the right direction.
