More work for actors?
The contracts going out for the actors in Vegas
are not that great and because it is a sit down
they get no per deim and living in that dessert will get more expensive.
Actors used to be able to make $ on the road because of per deim
I know it's a biz but please.
and does anyone know if the Q contract means it won't tour for a while?
and Q and Spam are so different
I am comnfused

Posted: 7/26/05 at 12:47amI'm really upset about this news too. Stupid greedy Steve Wynn. I don't want to see a slimmed-down version of the show! I guess I'll have to wait until I'm in New York to see it. Until then, I'll listen to the OBCR (I am obsessed with "Find Your Grail" at the moment).

Posted: 7/26/05 at 12:57amI've talked to some friends in Mamma Mia's Vegas Cast and I'm under the impression they still get some kind if per diem if they didn't originally live in Vegas.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 1:16amI really am not liking this very Vegas-y thrend of hacking perfectly good shows down to the bare minimum in order to increase the number of shows. Vegas could have been the next big thing in theatre had they opted for quality.

Ugh. Just when I thought I could just wait to see it when it comes around to SF.
Although I go to Las Vegas often enough, I don't want to see some slimmed down version of the show!
When I saw Mamma Mia in LV, I thought...for some reason...the production was lesser in quality than the tour cast I saw in SF. I certainly hope that does not apply to all the other "Broadway" shows in LV.

My father is super excited because it's an excuse for him to go to Vegas. OY.
I understand the obvious financial boost that this move will give, but I do think it's a shame that it won't tour; I think tours are important for bringing theatre to all parts of the country and building interest in cast recordings and such. While I understand the Vegas decision, I feel bad for the people getting shafted, including the owners of theaters that usually book these sorts of tours.
And I think the cutting of the show thing SUCKS...That is just blatant ridiculousness.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 2:06amIt's absolutely unfair to say that a full length tour doesn't go to California cities just so that we can travel all the way to Las Vegas to see a trimmed down version. Lucky I saw it in New York, and though I liked it, I won't miss not seeing it again.

Posted: 7/26/05 at 6:20amWhat about the creators of the trimmed shows selling out for money ? Everyone talks about Disney but what about Eric Idle ( who does not need the money or ALW with POTO) letting something that he created & nurtured being hacked to pieces so he can get a few extra bucks in his pocket. I have lost respect for him & others who let this happen to their creations

No, a "sit-down" isn't for an actor's benefit, but I promise that's the ideal situation for an actor working outside NYC. Very little in theatre is done for the actor's benefit.
sorry***
And I'm not so sure about the per diem thing: I know my friend in WWRY has housing and a shared car because they live off the strip. And I know that "42nd Street" is an equity tour, but they took a pay cut, so sometimes equity tours don't pay so well either.
