Hey All-
While I personally am not a fan of the score, I did want the OCR, and discovered that it's OOP. Normally, I'd go to Amazon, but it's upwards of 90 bucks. But, Samuel French is still selling NEW copies for $5.00 (before S&H).

Anyhow, if anyone is looking for a copy, you might go there.

Did anybody see this production? I'd love to know what people thought of it live.

I think the show has tons of potential, and I like a lot of it, but the acting on the CD is nauseating. It's like the OCR of Footloose--if you can get past the terrible acting, the songs aren't bad.

yeah, the acting isn't brilliant on the OBC. I didn't see the off broadway production, but my community theater did it and it was really good! then i saw the movie, which wasn't that good.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.

It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known.

Interesting. I know people who love the movie, but don't like the changes made for the musical.

I saw the Original Off-Broadway Production several times during it's limited run back in the Fall of 2001. I loved it, obviously. Garrett Long was fantastic as Percy as was Liz Callaway as Shelby.

It is quite different from the movie which I also liked but I think the changes that were made were necessary. I don't think a Musical theatre audience would suffer having their protaganist and leading lady die accidently as a result of being wrongly accused of a crime she didn't commit.

It was all about redemption and rediscovering hope. I found the show to be a really bright spot during a really dark time in the city.

I like the recording a lot...but upwards of 90 bucks? Not that much.

I didn't even pay THAT much for Minnie's Boys... and come on! :)

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

I actually love the music from the show. They sell the original cast recording at the Playwrights Horizons website for $18 (that's where it was originally produced OB), so that might be your best bet - it's easy, and you can order online (a late Christmas present perhaps??).

I love most of the music from this show. It's genuinely hummable, which hasn't been true of most musical theatre material for awhile. (I like experimental, atonal stuff as well, but there's room for both.) And I much prefer the new ending--the movie's abrupt finish not only cancelled out the rest of it, but didn't make sense.

I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

Agreed, but in the movie, she's the Christ-Figure, so as far as the allegory goes, she has to die.

Love this show. I'm definitely an advocate for anyone and everyone to hear it.
