I did this with Lea back in May.
I had time to get to Les Mis after I saw DEUCE. I waited until the show got over, went into the theater and picked up a couple playbills (actually, an usher asked me if that's what I was looking for and he got two for me...he was cute...maybe he was flirting ). Then I went to the stage door and had Lea sign one. Nothing wrong with it. Go for it!

I just took pictures because there were people that had seen the show and there were a lot at each stage door so I didn't want to get a picture with every single person. I usually wasn't close enough to get a picture and I figure I would be there again when I'd go see a show, I just wanted to at least see them in case they weren't there when I went.
Only way I've done this is if I happen to be in downtown SF and are close to the Curran Theatre after matinees or evening performances of Jersey Boys. It's a great chance to chat with friends in the cast if I have not seen them in a while.
Also, it was the only way I could get my in-person full cast playbill signed, especially since I don't get a chance to watch weekday matinee shows when most of the swings/understudies perform.....
I never make it a habit because it tends to spook out the cast members. Even if I attend regular shows, I dont go to the stage door all of the time. Before the show is when I get the best opportunity to talk to my friends on the cast.
Yeah I only did that when I was in NYC. I try to keep the stage door stalking to the minimum. lol
Would it be ok to stage door more than once if you are trying to get everyone to sign your playbill? I seriously have all my programs with one autograph or sometimes just about everyone but I can never get everyone. Thoughts? (sorry for the thread jack, but just curious)
Paying a ticket price doesn't mean you're paying to stage door.
Going to the stage door and asking for an autograph is your way of telling the performer (but I would hope it gets articulated as well...) - "Hey, I really like your work." Anyone should be able to do that.
I just feel bad bugging them and I'm not that assertive. But I do get what you are saying.
I would never ebay any of my theatre memorabilia. It is all too special to me.
If I'm going to a different show's stage door I either run into the theater and grab a Playbill or just get my picture taken with the actors. Except for Deuce when I had Angela sign a Sweeney Todd poster.
I went to The Vertical Hour stage door during previews and I was maybe one of 10 people there. I was wondering why it wasn't crazy.

I know there are very mixed emotions & opnions on this and I see why. I HAVE done this, and personally didn't see anything wrong with it. It wasn't for any person who had a large crowd, just a smaller actor/actress whom I admired. I have intentions of stagedooring next time I am in the city for a show i'm not seeing again, but to make my situation more reasonable, my mom refuses to see this paticular show again (We've seen it already). I would really like to meet and get pictures with these cast members, so this would be my only option.
As long as you aren't rude or pushy, I don't see how this could be a problem. If you are a true fan, then in my opnion it is fine, because part of an actors job is to be fan friendly, and without their fans they wouldn't have a very successful career. Although I have been careful when I do go to other shows that I haven't seen. You never know how large a crowd might be, especially when it's a more well-known actor.
I've done it before with Jersey Boys (: Its fine.
I don'y know if this counts... I saw Les Miz on a friday, but it was raining really hard after (and during) the show, so I went to the SD on the next night, when the weather cleared up...
of course..it's a free country. The sidewalk's free, even though the theatre's security may employ barricades if it's a popular show. Go everywhere !!
The Actr ~ It did get crazy sometimes. Especially closing. It was insane that afternoon!!

Thanks, everyone, for your input! There are just a couple people I'd like to get a glimpse of while I'm in the city. I am definitely going to try swinging by another stage door if I'm at a nearby theater. Anastasia_B., I may have to copy you. See if I can meet Lea and Cute Usher on the same night.
Although I figure it's okay as long as you're well-behaved and don't make a habit of it. :)
OF COURSE I will be well-behaved. No produce, no candlelight vigil. I'm no fangirl! *scurries off to make a stage door map*
Have a great time paikea and please let us know how it works out.
