If any theatre lover out there has the recording made from the 2006 Toronto run, what label carries the CD? Does this first try-out carry the Jonathan Tunick Orchestrations?
I heard from a working actor in NYC today. He saw the dress rehearsal last night and said the music was really quite beautiful as were the orchestrations. He thought many musicians were playing several different instruments at different times during the show. He said this made for a very rich sound and that the orchestrations were first rate in that they created the proper tone for the actor's various songs. What internet source do you suggest for me to try to get a copy of this early CD? Thanks.

There was no recording with the Toronto cast. Unfortunately.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

And I'm fairly sure Tunick wasn't attached 'til Goodspeed...

Hello FrontROWCENTRETWO: Any chance you might be able to get some of the music from THE STORY OF MY LIFE on your FM broadcast? If so, let us know when and we will tune in. Sounds like you enjoyed this score too. Some of the short sound bites on the Goodspeed website sounded quite beautiful.

Did you miss the part where he said that there was "no recording" ?

Others who have posted threads indicating that a recording of "some of the songs" has been made. Did The Charleston miss those threads? Perhaps you did. The Goodspeed website also has some video clips with some of the music.

not that impressed with the clips that I saw. too flat, not enough excitement.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree.

There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel.
