Just picked up the album the other day and immediately upon hearing it noticed several "similarities" to huge chunks of Sondheim, particularly SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE. "Write what you know, Tom," goes the opening number, with a melody that seems lifted directly out of "We Do Not Belong Together."
Am I crazy or did anyone else notice this? I didn't pay particular attention to the show when it opened (and closed), so should perhaps go back and read some reviews. Overall, I think the score is highly derivative and why anyone thought it could find an audience on Broadway is a mystery to me.
Also got SISTER ACT, which I haven't listed to yet, but will hopefully fare better...
