Hi All-

I was offered a discount tixs for Huntington's Theater production of STREAMERS directed by Scott Ellis. I did some research and it played in NYC at the LCT's Mitzi Newhouse (1976) . I know its about the Vietnam War ...and was adapted into a movie by Robert Altman in 1983. But Has anyone seen the play onstage ? and how was it?

Thanks

J*

I liked the movie a lot. Very intense. One of Rabe's best plays. I'd definitely check it out.

The movie--which is frustratingly unavailable on DVD and very hard to find on VHS--is probably Altman's best film of the eighties. And no one has seen it!

The play is arguably Rabe's best. I hope this comes to New York.

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Strangely enough, I actually caught it on cable a couple months ago at about 1am. We read the play and watched the movie in college in a drama literature course, and I forgot how much that ending got to me. It is so intense...and not even in the parts you would think would be intense. Amazingly moving.

I read this play for class, and I thought it was great. I would love to see this on stage.

I have to respectfully disagree about this being Rabe's best play though, I would have to give that title to Sticks and Bones. Now there's a show I would die to see on stage! Too bad it's kind of faded in the familiarity of past plays.

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

The Huntington production is riveting. Wonderful direction and performances. I'd love to see it transfer. I think this would have done much better at the box office than "Journey's End" had it been revived last year.

I saw the original production when I was in high school. While disturbing, it was an incredible theatrical experience. I hope this production is half as good. If it is, it should be amazing.
