Hey all you guys in the states
quick question
A couple of years ago when i was out in new york i got a job doing a very small workshop reading for a musical about studio 54
This was one of the best musical scripts and scores i had seen in a long time and the workshop reading went really well but since then i havent heard anything about it have any of you guys?
This show needs to be produced it was a very hard hitting raw look at the club and the after affects and really was quite amazing.

The only remotely 54-ccentric musical I've heard of in recent years was Kept, by Krieger and Russell. It was Moulin Rouge set in Studio 54, and had a staging here in California. Christiane Noll was Caleigh (think Satine), a party girl, Will Swenson was Ian the pre-med student who falls for her, and for color Brenda Braxton was Caleigh's sassy black friend and Barret Foa was Ian's sassy gay roommate.

well that def wassnt it
it mainly dealt with the staff and the party people there and how there lives were over taken by the club and led to self destruction
it also dealt with the fraud going on at 54 and steve rubbels relationship with his male staff and the club closing in 86 and the staff having to deal with the real world (most with aids at this point)and them not been able to slip back in to the every day life
it was really quite amazing
i guess it was never meant to be
shame

This sounds like the plot of the film "54" starring Ryan Phillipe, Selma Hayeck and Mike Myers. The film was cut by the studio and eliminated the kiss between Ryan Phillipe and Breckin Meyer.
Oh god no. The original was bad enough.
Yeah I was just going to say it sounds just like the plot of the movie.
The club Studio 54 creeped me out, the movie creeped me out and I think the musical would creep me out.

I LOVE the musical idea! I`m going to try to read more into it!
I'd love to play Ryan Phillipe's part.
It was a gawd-awful movie, sure. But that doesn't mean it couldn't make a good musical. Ryan Phillipe's role has Foa's name all over it. :)
TT
Will Swenson, is he the current Standby for Lestat?
