Those are great reviews. I am pretty obsessed with this cd right now. It's pretty amazing. The general consensus seems to be that Idina is the weakest link. Wierd to imagine on this board...

Posted: 3/17/06 at 5:26pmI loved the show and absolutely love the CD. Theatermania's critique of Idina is pretty harsh. I am not sure I agree, but I don't care for the Coffee song at all.

I loved the show when I saw it at the Public last year, but I have to say I disagree with some of the positive notices the cast album receives from these publications.
It's just that so much of the music seems inconsequential. I don't have any favorite songs I can go back and listen to again and again. There's no sense of story moving along. This is a criticism I know many make of LaChuisa's work, but I don't find listening to the whole CD that appealing either. Idina just comes off as painfully screechy and a lot of the numbers are forgettable without watching the show to support them.
That said, I am a fan of LaChuisa, and can't wait to see Bernada Alba.
