I was looking through Fierstein's biography and came a note of his play "Safe Sex" which played on Broadway in 1987. I was curious to know, did anyone see the production or since has anyone read it? I've found little about it elsewhere and am curious

I saw it on Broadway. I don't remember much about it, except that it was fairly underwhelming, and marred by the kind of preachiness that now seems part and parcel of Fierstein's work.

I found a copy of this at the old Shakespeare and Co. downtown (RIP) when I was at NYU; I particularly remember one of the three parts, ON TIDY ENDINGS- the play is a short two-character piece about the widowed male partner (Arthur, originally played by Fierstein himself) and the ex-wife (Marion) of a man named Colin who has just died of AIDS. Marion has had a very hard time accepting that Colin left her for a man and then an even harder time with his AIDS diagnosis and death, and the play takes place in Arthur's apartment a few days after the funeral. They are sorting through Colin's things, etc. and arguing about the future of Arthur's relationship with her & Colin's son. The character of Arthur is very Harvey-esque and has a sassy sense of humor, so there are a few laughs thrown in. I enjoyed it!
