Anyone have any info on this musical. Deborah Gibson originating the role of Maggie Hartford. www.saintheaven.com
Sounds pretty interesting. Just looking to see if anyone has seen a screening, could give us all a scoop? lol Is what this site is about right? lol Save all the Debbie Gibson sucks posts for your grandma's closet, we've all heard it for years now, and obviously life goes on. :)
Later,
Chris

Posted: 6/1/06 at 11:03pmI've been working on the show and it's AMAZING! The entire cast is FABULOUS! I Highly suggest that anyone that can get out to Connecticut to see it goes it's a great show! And Deborah is great in her role as Maggie, Like I said, the whole cast is just amazing! I've seen it about a hundred times in rehearsal and I still can't wait to see it again!

Has anyone not connected to the show seen it? What's your verdict?
Btw, I love Chuck Cooper.

Posted: 6/4/06 at 7:09pmI read on a fansite, (so there's some connection there not necessarily to the show) but a fan said the 2 leads Chuck Cooper and Cheryl Alexander were awesome. Deborah has 2 solo numbers and of course was Great. So that's all I've heard about it. I assume reviews may be in some paper monday or later this coming week, somewhere??? Saintheaven.com has pics from the premiere up on their site.

The show gets a positive review from Variety.

"Sometimes you've just got to have a little faith. Though there's more than a touch of familiarity in the early scenes of "Saint Heaven," the earnest little musical receiving its world preem at Connecticut's Stamford Center for the Arts, there's also some smart writing, appealing songs and touching performances. With continued work, this under-the-radar piece could prove to be a popular product for small and midsized stages."
"You might at first think you have sat in this theatrical pew before ("Abyssinia?" "The Color Purple?"). But Casella's script -- based on Steve Lyons' unpublished novel "The Gift of Tongues" -- deepens as the narrative develops. The pastor, housekeeper and buddy show unexpected shadings and offer surprising plot developments. Even the traditional love story evolves into a richer relationship. The musical has a nontraditional closing scene that is nonetheless soul-satisfying."
