San Francisco Theatre Recommendations? (July 2012)

I'm going to be in SF/Oakland July 27-29th. Seeing Fiona Apple with a few friends one night, but the other nights are wide open. Any theatre recommendations? Not interested in...

1 - Teeny Tiny "intimate" musical with a 3 piece band and local BFA students.

2 - National tours which I could easily see in So Cal.


Much more interested in productions exclusive to Nor Cal. The group I'm with would prefer straight plays to musicals, but I'll take any and all recommendations.

I'm not sure if you'd consider this a 'teeny tiny' musical or not, but Theatreworks in Palo Alto has a world premiere of a show called UPRIGHT GRAND. I have always found their productions to be of a very high quality

Scottsboro Boys at ACT
Sweeney Todd at Ray of Light
Spunk at CalShakes
Marat/Sade at Brava

to name a few, none of which I'll be missing.

Uhhhhh. Yeah.

Appreciate the responses, but I guess I won't be seeing any theatre while I'm up there. Was hoping for something with a bit more... bite. It is SF after all. Bad timing on my part. Too late for A Behanding in Spokane, too early for The Normal Heart.

A bit more bite than SCOTTSBORO BOYS? I am so sorry that I missed that show when it was on Broadway. From what I have heard, it surely had plenty of bite.
