Last night at The Grove in LA/Beverly Hills, there was another Sneak Preview of "The Producers."
I first saw the film in September here in LA, also. There were no closing credits and it still was a work in progress in terms of editing, scoring and so forth. Even without all that, it was an EXCELLENT film.
The print that screened last night was fantastic! The total running time is 2 hours and 40 minutes...give or take. This is the same running time from when I saw it in September.
This movie has Oscar, Oscar written all over it. And, I'm sure it will do quite well at The Golden Globes in January since there is a specific Musical category.
So many people on this board and others have bashed this film from the begining saying that it's a bad movie, it's had so many problems during filming, etc....... Why do people have to be so negative and make up stories???? Jealousy is an ugly thing.
Thanks for reading.
I am so excited about this film, and cannot wait to see it!
People on this board, as a general rule, simply consider The Producers overrated, which in many ways, is true.
But it's still a fantastic piece of theatre, and will probably make a great film (the original film is fantastic, too)...
so cant for 4 this
Does anyone know if there is a Sneek Preview of it in San Francisco and does it anyone else know if it opens here in SF on the 16th or the 25th?

I know I'm very particular about which threads I read and which I skip. That may be the reason why I've never heard a single negative thing about this movie. I've heard nothing but praise - across the board. I'm so anxious to see it - I wish I had a DVD of it right now!
It is very odd that you saw an unedited version without credits. The final version has been running in NY for a couple of weeks in screening and the movie already opened in NY this past week and opens in L.A. on 12/12, so they are not making any changes.
Not sure why the theater screened the old, longer version, but the final version runs 2 hrs and 15 minutes and (obviously) has credits, etc. In fact, the credits are worth staying for...very funny.
i was just about to post that also sam.
~ the completed film has already had it's premiere in NYC at the Ziegfeld
odd . . .
and i don't recll anyone really bashing the film on these boards...
i don't know what this poster is talking about...

"This movie has Oscar, Oscar written all over it."
I highly doubt a film with the reviews it's generating on Rotten Tomatoes has Oscar written all over it but I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Yeah, you're right, KuhnKrazy. The opinions of Rob Vaux and Emanuel Levy are constantly holding movies back from winning Oscars. I can't believe how much weight those guys pull in Hollywood. If they thought the movie was this bad, I think I will not bother seeing it.
Didn't the original (now classic) film get lousey reviews?
