Haven't seen it yet but bought tickets because of glowing reviews from the Maxamoo theater podcast. Lots of really positive reviews on showscore too

I was always intrigued with this show's conceit since it first opened having had an aunt who assiduously made audio tapes at every (and I mean every) family gathering in the pre video era, but other shows took precedent and it seemed to be gone (I think) for awhile. Was happy to just discover it is still around (or back). Thinking of seeing it with my 30 something nephew during a one day February visit as the Venn diagram of shows we would both enjoy and those I've already seen are leaving few options. Since this rather short 2017 thread --have others had a chance to see it and could let me know their thoughts? Sorry if I missed another more comprehensive thread. During a general internet search I see a lot positive comments and reviews - but it was the few that say it was worst thing they every saw that made me want to reach out for additional reactions. You always take your chances no matter what others think, but since it is the only show I will be seeing on my one-day visit I wanted to try and make it count.
If there is also something else outstanding off-Broadway that people want to recommend instead, please do. We've have already narrowed the possible Broadway choices. Thanks!

I had never heard of this show before just now when this thread was bumped. Looks fascinating. I can't believe it's been selling out for 2 years and I never even heard of it. But now I feel like I have to see it. Does anyone know if it's ever been up on TDF?

I still have not seen it. I've heard nothing but good things about it but I can never find room to fit it into my NY trips.

I saw it. Very creative, engaging and fast-moving. There is some audience participation.
Another day, another dollar is the reality of my mentality. Otherwise, don't even bother.- TLC

Just guessing, but SouthernCakes might have gone back to read the original NYT review which mentioned $40 tickets in the actual text of the review with a link to same - but that was from two years ago. I believe you are correct that tickets are now $65.00-- I couldn't find any cheaper than that either.

Oh yeah! Haha That is exactly what I did! It seems such a small space and obviously is still selling well so I doubt they’d do any sort of discount.

Hork - If I were in your shoes, and had opportunities (plural) to get to NYC, I would make this show a priority. I don't say that as someone who's seen the show, but as someone whose absolute BEST theater experiences have been off Broadway shows..
Case in point (for me) was The Boys Next Door at the Lamb's Theater, back in the 80s. I knew nothing about the show other than Woody Harrelson was in it, and I had a crush on him. To date, best theater experience I've ever had - EVER.
It's great to see all the shows that have popular buzz, especially those that are deserving of their praise, but for "45+"? - I would definitely take a chance on this show.
Basically, I want you to see it because I want to, but I don't have your opportunity... (notice how much I mention me and my experience in this post???)

Haha, since you put it that way, maybe I'll see it next time I'm there. Now that I've finally gotten tired of Sleep No More, there's more room in my schedule.

I happened to be in NY this past Sunday and saw that the matinee was further discounted on Today Tix to $35. With hope in my heart, I purchased a ticket.
Seating is limited to approximately 15 per performance. Audience participation consists of reading, to oneself, along with an original audio recording. It is an enjoyable and informative 90 minutes of material stretched out to an enervating 2:20 run, by a lengthy intro punctuated with lots of ums and uhs, and an unnecessary intermission. Broadway and television/movie history buffs will enjoy the few references and connections to seasons long past, and personalities both living and deceased. I'm glad I went and would recommend it with reservation. It's really not a $65 piece on its own. Given its historical value, it belongs somewhere other than a makeshift performance space.

Thanks for all your responses after I bumped this. I did not get to see it last weekend as I lost the coin toss (wah!) but, hopefully, will do so in the near future as it remains high on my list. Thanks also for advising that discounts have started to pop-up. Still interested in people's reaction until I actually get to see it, so please continue to post your reactions if you go,

It's the best thing I saw in 2017 and a Top 10 overall for my 15 years in NYC.
I actually didn't realize it was still playing with the original performer. I just booked tickets to see it a second time when some family comes to town in April.
