Hi Broadwaystar... :)
Sarah Brightman as Effie White?
Why stop there?
How about Jennifer Halliday as Eliza Doolittle? :)

Hi Broadway..., :)
You never heard of the film version of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC (1977)?
Cast was filled with nonsingers(Liz Taylor, Diana Rigg, Lesley-Anne Downe, etc.)
As always, key songs ("The Miller's Son") were cut.
Locale was moved to Germany because it was cheaper to film there.
Len Cariou did repeat role of Henrik from original Broadway production but the chemistry between he and Liz wasn't strong enough to light a 40 watt bulb.
Most importantly, Liz was so fat that she looked more like a poster child for Overeaters Anonymous than a vixen who could attract two handsome men at the same time.
Film opened in Art Houses; was quickly hammered by the critics; and soon disappeared.
It was only released on laserdisc, so EXTREMELY HARD to find.
I saw original Broadway production AND film--it was like eating a seven-course meal at a five-star restaurant versus eating a peanut butter sandwich.
Talk about Scary!!!

Hey Gov... :)
A little MAME trivial pursuit for you: when management was first getting the production started in 1966, the first name that came up for the role of Mame Dennis was. . . Mary Martin. :)

Hey Gov... :)
That was during the time period when Mary Martin was offered virtually EVERY female part that came along. (One of the roles she turned down was Fanny Brice in FUNNY GIRL.)
Try and imagine our Nellie Forbush, Peter Pan, and Maria von Trapp playing a Yiddish comediene struggling to make it to the top? That's SCARY CASTING.
She and her husband [her Business Manager] heard score and were not impressed. Instead, she choose to do that immortal classic JENNIE (82 performances).
P. S. Martin seems to have some "unique" opinions regarding show music. She was also first choice for Eliza Doolittle in MY FAIR LADY, but thought that scoe wasn't any good either.
