Schwartz Tribute at Symphony Space April 16

I only caught the second half from about 6pm on, but it was pretty amazing... A free concert with an all star cast of Stephen Schwartz friends and family.... And it wasn't even that packed... Couldn't believe more people didn't come... Highlights included:

patti Lupone singing a Baker's Wife set including Meadow Lark (she brought the house down)

hunter Parish singing "wings of a dove" from a new musical Schwartz is working on

michael McCory Rose singing the 11 o'clock number from HOUDINI... Which Hugh Hackman abandoned... (They should produce this with McCory Rose as the lead)

Tovah Feldshuh singing the grandma's song from Pippin

betsty Wolf singing colors of the win and then doing when you believe with Nicki James and a full choir (the new arrangements from the stage version)

a new song from his new Pinocio musical for a tenor... A real comic tenor Aria... It was soooo amazing... Sung by Jeff Beakly (sp?)

schwartZ talking us through several first drafts and second drafts of songs with different lyrics and fun stories

schwartz serenading us on piano ... Especially when he sang "for good"

max Von Essen brought down the house!!!!! Can't remember the name of the song he sang but it was a standing ovation...

It was just awesome hearing all the great stuff... Arias from operas he wrote, piano variations, little known beautiful songs from forgotten shows, choral pieces ... Folk music... Just delightful ... What an amazing night!!!!!


Oh oh and Kyle Dean Massey sang like 8 songs... and he's dreamy...
