I was at the last Off-Broadway performance of The Scottsboro Boys this afternoon. I can't say enough about how wonderful this show is. I met Mr. Kander, briefly, afterwards and congratulated him, but I forgot to ask if it was definate if it was moving to Broadway. I should mention this was my second time seeing the show.
I think knowing what to expect made me enjoy the show a little more this time. It was still shocking, thrilling, surprising theatre, but I think I understood it better and was a little more comfortable this time around. My theatregoing companion, who had not seen the show before, couldn't speak until five minutes after the show. It's that kind of piece.
Kudos to Kander, Stroman, Thompson and all involved with this brilliant show! May it move to Broadway for a long and happy run!

I had that same reaction when I saw it a few weeks ago. I have had a few experiences in my life where I start to experience a cathartic kind of sobbing. I felt that coming on after this show...but put a stop to it because it's really difficult on my partner to have to collect me. I truly hope I get to experience this emotion again next season.

I reacted the same way Gator, after yesterdays matinee. The sobbing was abrupt and sustained throughout the lengthy applause and as I left, all the way to the poster table, where I signed, wordlessly for a signed poster and program. It was a heartfelt artistic experience that was appalling, shocking and yet life affirming. Christ-this show knocked my socks off. What a great surprise! I forgive Stro for Happiness, Big and Thou Shalt Not (almost).

Oooh, I wish I knew more about the transfer! I can't wait to see how it works in a small Broadway house.

I hope they work on it a bit before Broadway. I liked it a lot but Thompson's book needs some focusing.
