I attended an early preview last night. I was unacquainted with the play; had never seen or read it.
I thought I'd give a heads up... if you have an opportunity to go, do it. Frances Sternhagen turns in her usual terrific performance. She, and George Grizzard as her husband, seemed so familiar to me. Their relationship...the funky older woman and the less adventurous and outgoing spouse...is a common configuation. But the play, and Grizzard's performance, give him a poignancy and depth. Elizabeth Marvel and Frederick Weller, stunningly costumed, successfully tread that fine line which kept the lizard 'people' balanced between unconsciously budding humanity and other-worldliness. There's a lot of humor here...and also a lot of food for thought.
And the set worked really well, IMO. Huge, realistic sand dunes and a sublty shifting sky made the setting feel very real, and provided a perfect backdrop for the absurdist elements of the story.
It's a pretty short show. Started late...maybe 8:10...and I was out by 9:50. And that's including a 15 minute intermission. But the show is as long as it needs to be. It worked for me.

Just came from seeing it, what a really memorable show, the 4 members of the cast
are so GREAT, I can imagine that 2 members of the cast have sore knees, I will not
say any more than that - - but go see it if you can. It was a complete delight !
