Can someone advise me as to which areas to avoid? I saw Gypsy from the front row of the balcony and will NEVER sit up there again. Is the mezzanine bad too? Do you have to lean forward to see the stage or is the barrier lower? Or am I better off shelling out the cash for a ticket in the back or extreme sides of the orchestra? Thanks in advance! Sorry if there is already a thread for this...
I've been in the mezz and I don't remember any problems. And I'm pretty short.

I think the mezzanine is fine, but I've only sat there. But yes, I would avoid the balcony.

I sat in the mezz for Gypsy. It was a great view. I think I was in the center like row j. It wasn't up at the front rows of the mezz. I just bought a ticket today for the balcony for American Idiot. But thats all I wanted to pay.
I think I sat in the first row of the rear mezzanine for Finian's Rainbow, and the view was very good. The reason I'm not sure of location is because I was supposed to sit in the balcony, but got moved there by the ushers. It was the row right above the walkway in the mezzanine.
I've sat in the mezzanine on two different occasions. Once I sat on the far left which was fine but the second time I sat in the center and it was perfect.
I'd avoid the back of the mez and anywhere in the balcony. I prefer orchestra only in the St James. I think most seats in the orchestra are pretty perfect.
I saw in Row O of the mezzanine for Finian's Rainbow and had a clear view of the stage - the balcony doesn't cut off anything at the top and it's steep enough so there were no heads in the way from the rows in front.
I sat in the rear mezz one of the times I saw Finian's Rainbow and that was a little far back but okay. I'd recommend front mezz or orchestra in the St. James though...it's a pretty big house.

Hmm... there's no way to exchange a balcony ticket for a mezz or orchestra and pay the difference is there?
No. That is why Telecharge makes you check the box saying you know there are no refunds or exchanges.

Thanks for the help everyone! I went with front row mezzanine on the left side. I'm hoping I don't need to lean forward to see the front of the stage...

Sorano9162...it doesn't hurt to ask, especially if they are not sold out and stand to get more money. I once had a ticket to a Sunday performance, (it may have been Angels in America Part 2) and was given a free ticket at the last minute to the Tony's dress rehearsal. I asked the box office if they would change me to another day, the box office employee did so with no problem. And no extra cost to me. I did give her some flowers after the fact though. But it was worth it.
