I am still in awe from the performance last night.
First of all, I thought the children were remarkably self posessed and in character considering the short rehearsal time and the fact that they were still working with scripts (which they barely glanced at)
Steven Pasquale - just wow. I had never actually heard the man sing - so it came as a real shock to me. He's also exceptionally easy on the eyes.
Will Chase I thought started off a little weak (and sounded a lot like John Lennon for his first few lines) but really ripped into his role later on. Thoroughly enjoyable.
I thought the whole thing was staged beautifully - and it speaks volumes that I wasn't put off by the fact that it was a staged reading, seeing as how the very lush original produciton is still very fresh in my mind.
And Max REALLY made me notice Mary's father. In a way that I never had before. He made the role poingant and important - and I'd never really given it very much consideration.
Worth my money, that's for sure. I'd see it again tonight if it was ongoing!
Now what would you say if today I started over?
Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover
And I'll pretend like everything is already alright
And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight
