I have been a huge cheerleader for the brilliant production of "A Streetcar Named Desire", and I want everybody to go see it before it closes on July 3. So, I thought I would post an excellent offer for $25 tickets to see this revelatory piece of theatre.
This offer is for $25 tickets in select areas of the mezzanine. Call (212) 719-1300, and mention the code "SCPL25". This offer ends on June 10, and is good for all performances until the end of the run, which is July 3.
I hope this discount encourages some of you to see the show!
Another "Streetcar" discount, per Theatermania.com. It is also for $25 mezz seats. Call Roundabout at (212) 719-1300 and mention the code "SCTM25". You must order by June 18, and it is good for the rest of the run (which ends July 3).

Meffie--
I was offered a free ticket, and still turned it down. John C. Reilly appears terribly miscast, and the reviews of him have been scathing. Plus, the backstage stories about him have totally turned me off.
What do you really like about this production? And give me more than Miranda please!
Reilly would be miscast if he were playing Marlon Brando. He is not; he is playing Stanley, and his interpretation, while very different, is still valid.

Matt, I have always valued and often agreed with your opinions, but you did see the first preview. It has tightened up quite a bit since then.
Well, if we're all posting our reviews...
My Review
So John C. Reilly did a fine interpretation. And Miranda is brillant. Well, i won't know unless i see for myself. And it's next door to my gym! I may check it out.

To a person, nearly everyone who saw it the first two weeks hated it. I'm not sure how the show transformed itself by the fourth week of previews, but by the time I saw it, it was truly sublime (other friends have told me similar stories about Richardson in CABARET -- one friend who calls her Sally Bowles the finest performance he's seen by a musical actress in 25 years, also noted that she seemed a bit lost and not quite there during the early previews). Blanche and Stanley are incredibly complex and difficult roles and it takes a little time for actors to hit their stride playing them.
Reilly was not doing Brando -- THANK GOD. He was doing his own interpretation of Stanley that was fully supported by the text. And look, I know the film inside out, upside down, shot-for-shot, but when the lights went down and this production began, I put all of that out of my mind, forgot all about it and as much as humanly possible, made no comparisons and let this director and this company of actors tell me the story of this play. And guess what? I was blown away.
Actually, I did see it during its first week of previews, and loved it. However, both times that I went back (a week after opening and two weeks ago), I loved it even more.
OK. So now it's: (ding) 2 to 1, in Streetcar's favor.
This is like Battle of the Network Stars. Battle of the Internet Theater Queens.
Actually, it's 3-1: Me, Margo and Gov. to Matt.

Yeah, I know just how much you respect the Tony voters Matt, especially after they awarded SPAMALOT Best Musical. I mean their taste is impeccable, right?
