I grew up going to New York every year and visiting my aunt, and then tooling around with her, my mom, and their friend Jennifer. And only after I'm like 10 do I find out that Jennifer Laura Thompson is (or would be) a Broadway star. Jeez.
So, I've sort of known an actor before I knew who they were. Lol. Weird story. Updated On: 2/12/06 at 03:00 AM
This isn't exactly what you are asking...because this guy wasn't famous when I saw him. But when I saw "Filumena" in London many, many, many years ago (before many of you were born) A guy named Pierce Brosnan was in it. I saw it because of Joan Plowright and don't think Brosnan was well known then. But it was fun to look at the program years later and see his name.
On a cold January night in 1994, while eagerly waiting to get an autograph from Rosie O'Donnell, I let a then unknown Meghan Mulally walk right past me...in fact I think I practically pushed her out of the way to get to Rosie..... If only!
My mother just recently took out her Playbill from the first time she saw Rent, back in the summer of 1997. I was flipping through it and noticed that "Sherie Rene Scott will be starring in Aida" and nearly fell over. She also lucked out and saw Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, Marcy Harriel... and Norbert Leo Butz was also in the cast.
I met Matt Morrison, Kevin Cahoon, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Jarrod Emick, and Alice Ripley at Rocky Horror without having any idea of who they were, and was so taken with the fact that they were incredibly sweet.
Terrence Mann in Beauty and the Beast... I was seven. Little did I know I'd be seeing him again and again once I reached my teenage years.
Shoshanna Bean and Jenn (then Jennifer) Gambatese in Hairspray.
Jai Rodriguez as Angel. I watched an episode of Queer Eye and insisted I recognized Jai, but no one believed me--they thought I was recognizing him from another episode of the same show--until I pulled out an old Playbill!
"It's not for sissies, contrary to popular belief." - Tommy Tune, on musical theatre.
my mom saw julie andrews in _camelot_ when she was only known at all for _the boyfriend_ and she saw florence henderson in _the sound of music_ (not sure if she counts)
I found my old playbills from Les Mis, Phantom and Miss Saigon recently...and my Les Mis one has a few names that I now recognize. Sarah Uriate (now Uriate Berry) in the ensemble of Les Mis....and got a chance to see her in Piazza a week ago and mentioned she was in my first bway show. Jessica Snow Wilson was also in that performance of Les Mes who I later saw in Lil Shop and Good Vibrations. Also Ron Bohmer was Enjolras and I saw him as Glyde in Woman in White. I also saw Lacey Chabert as young eponine or cosette who was on Party of Five.
