Seeing a show a second time when you hated it the first time.

Posted: 3/8/07 at 9:42pmI've only gone back once to see a show I disliked, and only because the tickets were a gift from someone who didn't know my history with the show. It was THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, and the first time I saw it I was so bored I left at intermission. The second time I stayed for the whole thing, and decided I hadn't missed anything by leaving early the first time. At least I hadn't paid for it the 2nd time.

I'm contemplating seeing Grey Gardens again. While I didn't hate it, I just felt as if the piece doesn't work.
WithoutATrace- You saw "The Times..." three times, but hated "Spelling Bee" so much you would never see it again?! "Spelling Bee" is just so... loveable. lol

Posted: 3/9/07 at 1:06amI know. I was pretty out of it the day I saw it and I feel like I owe it a second chance.

Posted: 3/9/07 at 2:29amI hated Jersey Boys when I saw it, but given how much everyone else (ie all the critics and everyone else in the audience that day, including my family) loves it, I'm thinking about giving it another shot.

I did not like this past "Three Penny Opera" the first time, but someone offered me a ticket to see it with them and I liked it better the second time. Still, it did not become a favorite of mine.
The first time I saw ACL was back in the 70's and I hated it; but I might go see it again since I'm older and wiser!!!

The first time I saw Rent I hated it - it was too loud and I had no idea what was going on in the first act. But I'd already been given the cast recording as a gift, so I thought I might as well listen to it. The cast recording really grew on me so I saw Rent seven months later and absolutely loved it. Then went on to become a total Renthead.
The the case of Wicked, I was disappointed twice but loved it the third time. The first time I saw it (on Broadway) I expected it to be an amazing, life-changing piece of theatre and it... wasn't. But I really, really wanted to like it beacause of all the hype surrounding it and the fantastic reviews, etc. So I saw it again on my next holiday to New York... and was still disappointed. Then Wicked came to London amid loads of hype, fantastic reviews, etc. I saw it for the third time because of Idina Menzel. And loved it.
