Talk about completely under the radar screen...
The "world premiere" recording of Albert Tapper's "Sessions: the Musical" has been quietly released after being even more quietly recorded mid-July. I've never heard/seen an album drop quicker, right in time for the show's closure last week.
I figured all 15 people who saw it would be interested. Considering how much I paid to see the show (gotta love the comps) I think I can spare $16 to get the album...though I'm sure it'll be cheaper at Virgin Records.

You really think they're selling it at Virgin???
The score was fantastic. Now all they need is a commercial production in a theatre with more than 100 seats. Sessions would make a really good off-Broadway show.

You mean a commercial off-Broadway show.
I'd love for the show to have a commercial life (it was surprisingly entertaining despite being a bit too predictable and a bit too melodramatic at points), but it's just not big enough, even for a venue like New World Stages.
Plus, 90% of the run at Playwrights Horizons was comped, which means that nobody was buying tickets.
The score is very pleasant, as was the singing. Amy Bodnar was the best, but everyone had their moments.
