For my community theatre, Seussical is going to be the next musical.

I really, really want the part of Sour Kangaroo or Mayzie.

Can anyone think of any good audition songs for those parts? I'm a 2nd alto-2nd soprano, can sing tenor and am a good belter.

What about "Take Me Or Leave Me" ?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Updated On: 6/27/04 at 02:00 AM

Well i dont have an answer to your question but i think that "Take Me or Leave Me" sounds great! A community theater in my town is doing Seussical too! I really really wanted to be JoJo but the director casted a short, highschool girl instead! A GIRL FOR A BOYS PART?? man it made me mad! good luck at your auditions!!!

Well, it happens! I was in "Pippin" in April, and the director cast a female for the Lead Player, typically played by a male.

I know how that feels though! I'm currently in a youth production of "Once On This Island" and I wanted the part of Asaka, but was cast as Mama Euralie. I love my part now though, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Were you cast at all?

Both sour kangaroo and Mayzie are big on belting. Just find a song that really shows off your belt but is not over done. One of the girls who got the Sour Kangaroo in our production sand something from Rent. Just choose a song that best shows off your belt. My production of Seussical is coming up here in less than two weeks. I am excited but I am also working hard to make sure I am ready for it. Good luck! Even if you don't get cast as Mayzie or the Sour Kangaroo it is a really fun show and the ensemble is on stage quite a bit.

Elle- The leading player is often played by a female. It is really a genderless part and since the ratio of females to males in high school theater is higher, the part usually goes to a female

Seussical is a terrible show. Take Me or Leave Me is a great song so audition with that if you're prepared to eb in one of the worst musicals ever written.
