#1Shakespeare Birthday Marathon
Posted: 4/26/09 at 9:23pmSo I just got back from the Shakespeare Birthday Marathon and Symphony Space today. There were some great standout performances. Denis O'Hare was marvelous in a seen from Richard III. If he could do that with a reading, I can't imagine how wonderful he would be in a full on production. Hamish Linklater was beyond brilliant in the scene of Much Ado where Beatrice asks Benedict to kill for her. I can not WAIT to see him in Twelfth Night this summer. I had no idea he was such an intuitive actor. And Michael Cerveris...Michael, Michael, Michael. I gotta say, after seeing Cymbeline at Lincoln Center I was very dissapointed and surprised with his lackluster performance, but the man came back swinging tonight with a scene from Measure for Measure. Again, the fact that all three gentleman were reading the lines, astounded me because each of them grabbed your attention early on and sustained it throughout. There was no overdramatic "I am acting Shakespeare" crap that I hate. Just ease, poise, and confidence. Bravo, men.
