The Best Of Theater 2005
Does anyone have any great theater experiences/moments to share from 2005?
Thanks.

The Best Of Theater 2005
I have three great moments.
1. When I saw The Pillowman, after the show ended, there was this like five second silence from the audience. We were all just taking in what we had just witnessed. Then, what seemed like at the exact same moment, the audience burst into cheering and lept to their feet. Truly a special moment.
2. Afterwards, I went out to meet Jeff Goldblum at the stage door, and to my surpise and joy, he signed for about one hour. Making sure everyone got an autograph. Then, after all this, he stayed an additional 15 minutes talking to me about the play and his film work. A great guy.
3. This isn't really a moment, but when I saw Orson's Shadow, the whole audience could just feel they were weatching something special. Truly a great night out at the theatre.
The shows I absolutely loved this year:
Doubt
The Pillowman
Glengarry Glen Ross
Who's Afraid of Wirginia Woolf
Spamalot (put the guns down)
Jersey Boys
Seascape
Orson's Shadow
Thanks for sharing! A friend saw Pillowman and loved it! You and I also have several shows in common on our lists. I heard that Seascape and Jersey Boys are wonderful shows. I would like to see them. Maybe someday soon......

Seascape is closing soon, so run to that one. And Jersey Boys is going to be around for a while, but not with the star, so run to that one to.

My highligts:
Gem of the Ocean - highly underrated and exquisitely acted
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - wonderful new take on a classic plus electric performances by Bill Irwin and Kathleen Turner. Also a great portrayal of Honey by someone new to me, Mireille Enos
Dessa Rose - saw it twice, now have the cast recording. One of the most powerful and original pieces of theater I have ever seen with bravura performances by the entire cast led by the endearing La Chanze and the exquisite Rachel York
Light in the Piazza - a warm glow that seeps into your pores with heart and humor. Loved everyone, especially Victoria Clarke and Kelli O'Hara, but the biggest surprise for me was seeing a thrilling performance by David Burnham as Fabrizio. The audience adored him, and so did I
The BWW Standing Ovations IV concert in October - what a line up, what a night! I'll be back next year
Being from Boston, I have to wait to see many shows until they either tour or are done in repertory. I also miss out on many great concerts, like the recent Cabaret Festival at The City Hall. But I'll be back to NYC in the spring, and here's my wish list for 2006:
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with the new cast members
Doubt
The Color Purple
Rabbit Hole
Happy New Year, everyone!

I have to say that meeting the cast after a performance can make an experience better. I remember seeing Ave. Q earlier this year and met almost the entire cast. They were all such a joy to talk with and some were so passionate about what we spoke about.
I also saw See What I wanna see which was my first off-broadway play, although I did not get the chance to meet Idina the remainding cast made up for her absence. Mark Kudisch (sp?) made the show even more memerable for me.
And recently I got the chance to meet the cast of Sweeney Todd which I have to say is by far the best show in NYC. Meeting almost everyone made up for getting sick and still recovering as of today. Micheal Cerveris was amazing and so nice afterwards.
I recently traveled to NYC (Dec.15-19) and saw the above mentioned, The Color Purple, the Producers and The WOman in White, as well as Radio City Christmas Show, and The Nutcrakcer. Seeing those 4 broadway shows just made the trip even more memerable not only for the fact that each show was amazing but that they are still new shows to Broadway.

I don't know why Sweet Charity was put on the list or why Once Upon a Mattress was honorable mention. Oy. That's all I have to say.
Perhaps they are on the list because it's an OPINION.

Did anyone think that the Once Upon a Mattress movie was one of the best shows of the year????
Maybe not you...and definitely not me...but I guess the author did!
10)Seascape
9)Light in the Piazza
Summer of ’42 Benefit Concert
7)Ragtime at the Papermill
6)West End- Mary Poppins
5)On the 20th Century Actor's Fund BCEFA Concert
4)Who's Afriad of Virginia Woolf
3)Dessa Rose
2)Wall-to-Wall Sondheim
1)Sweeney Todd- First preview- The musical of all musicals. How much do I feel it to be a priveldge to be in the same room as Stephen Sondheim (after meeting him!!!!) and witnessing a legendary performance of Patti LuPone. She's amazing, the show is mindblowing and the other actors continue to leave me in awe! THIS is the show of the year!!!
I have corrected my error in posting the made for television movie "Once Upon A Mattress." It was ok, but it was a typo on the list. You're doing great people-keep sharing and I will publish your thoughts.
