Should "Candide" be considered obscure theatre?

It's not obscure by any possible standard.
Just because a show hasn't had a thread about in a few months doesn't make it obscure.
It remains a groundbreaking piece of theater by one of the worlds greatest writers.

I just watched a Barbara Cook interview on YouTube. She said "Glitter and Be Gay" was the hardest piece of music she has ever sung. At first, she couldn't get through it because she's didn't have the strength. She said, after every rehearsal, she's go home and sing it through twice to build up her strength.
Also, I watched two videos of Ms Chenoweth sing it, once from the concert version and once with the Boston Pops. In both, she was the same. She doesn't trust the song, so she indicates like crazy. I cringed. Ms. Chenoweth could take lessons from Barbara Cook. She should not be allowed to sing it ever again.

To me, it seems she's built a persona on quirks. When there's a song that fits her persona, she goes for broad humor. I'd say she doesn't trust herself and her audience rather than the songs.
