Right, government in general including states (I don't remember much from my constitutional law course, and it was the most difficult and complicated stuff I had ever read). The elevated understanding of "right" is still beyond the scope of expressing political opinion in private industries, though.
And reap the consequences, both good and bad--do celebs get backlash if they actively avoid "topics of the day," I wonder?
I saw something interesting on George Takei's Facebook feed some time ago. Some people who follow him for his humorous postings took him to task for posting his political opinions--on his personal Facebook page, keep in mind--and he basically said "no," that as a celebrity, he had a higher responsibility for reaching his fanbase with important news and such, even if they disagree. Or something to that effect, damned if I can find the post again because Facebook is impossible to search.
