I've been wondering why the lower class characters in the London cast of LES MIZ have cockney accents. To denote class structure? Using that logic, in the American cast, The Thernardiers and Gavroche should use either white trash hillbilly accents, or Brooklyn "Bowery Boy" accents!
I've been wondering why the people in the revival of NINE speak with Italian accents. The play is set in Italy, and they would be speaking Italian. When you do ROMEO AND JULIET, or TAMING OF THE SHREW, you don't use Italian accents, even though they are set in Italy.
